Project 2 : Structure and Body
Project 2 we had to design and construct a 1: 1 scale shading structure, which was placed at Uni Square, Taylor’s University. We had to work with bamboo and understand the nature and characteristics of the materials and how they are to be used in design with basic knowledge in construction. With help from our tutors and the Me.Reka Space we were able to construct a shading structure whilist also learning the importance of anthroprometry and ergonomics. The banal action that we chose was resting.
Reclusivity that overlooks a soothing view to induce calm.
A parabolic ribcage fitted with an undulating mesh that articulates counter to its primary geometry. This gives the canopy effective shading properties whilst allowing diffused amounts of sunlight to penetrate it, giving it a sense of spirituality when it casts shadows with a rhythmic contortion into the vault.
We worked on designing our structure and building it for about a total of three weeks. Initially our group had divided into the bamboo research team and the test model team. When building our final model we all worked together and the drawings were split between the group members.
